29th July 2016 / LAST DAY
Tears!!! Today is our last day on holiday. It hasn’t necessarily gone fast, but it’s still crept up on us.
We really wanted to keep today as chill as possible and eek out the last drop of summer before heading to winter again. So we decided to hang by the pool as much as possible.
Of course, we also wanted to do another thing on our list…a SoulCycle class! If anyone doesn’t know what this is, check out the website and instructor bios…it makes for excellent reading!
We were booked into the 8.30am class with Ciara. Apparently she’s great for newbies as she’s very instructional.
We had loads of fun! It was exactly what you think it’s going to be, and I can’t help but think that if your day started out with so much affirmation and positive reinforcement, how could you not have an amazing day! If we lived here and could afford it, we’d totally be SoulCyclists. And it was just really good to have a workout, bleed some sweat and get the endorphins pumping. Although, it did tell us how much fitness we’ve lost, which isn’t going to be fun when we get home!
Clearly we needed to refuel after that, so we wandered down Beverly Drive again and stopped for eats at Coral Tree. It was perfect! Caffeine for us both, I had eggs and Ju splashed out for her last day and had choc chip buttermilk pancakes. I also helped her with them…they were yummy!!!
We had asked that morning if we could do late check out (our flight didn’t leave until 10.30pm), and of any day to get a lovely front desk person, today was the day.
We were able to get to 1pm free, and then we could check out, store the bags, and use all the facilities (read pool) for the rest of the day until we needed to leave.
And that’s exactly what we did!!!
We lazed and ate and drank out way through the last day until we got sick of it…about 4.30pm. And mostly because people kept coming up to us and making conversation. I met a child star and the whole thing blew my mind a bit (you know you’re in LA when a 14 year old kid comes up to you and introduces himself with a handshake and says he’s in town for work).
But clearly the Friday vibe was happening as there was a DJ and flamingo inflatables and lots of industry talk. We kinda got sick of it all, and went to find a wee corner in a cafe around the way, to have some timeout. Oh, and eat. Ju was feeling a bit anxious by this point, and had a sore tummy, so we decided to just get back to the hotel, get the car, head our to the airport with plenty of time and wrap it all up. We left Beverly Hills at 5.50pm and made it to the Avis rental car drop off just over an hour later. Crazy when it’s only 11km!
Avis has a free shuttle from their location to the terminal and we were lucky enough to quickly jump on the one just departing. Lucky until we realised that stowing roller bags in their wheels is a stupid idea, and we went around a corner and they all came running out to see us. We were standing there and had people to help us, so it was just a minor drama.
But yeah, I’m writing this on the plane about an hour out of LA. We’re sad to leave our holiday behind, but we’ve had such an amazing time we can’t really begrudge anything. We’ve spent the last 22 days with each other constantly, 24/7. We’ve made it through tiredness, scratchiness, anxiousness, and all the other bad ‘nesses…but we just had so much love and fun with each other we reckon we make a pretty good team!
Can’t wait to cuddle Puff and Bam!
