Day Eight : We Met Our Match

15th July 2016

Today was an epic, big, massive, crazy, overwhelming day.

We started off by trying out a little Turkish bakery just around the corner from our hotel, called Simit Sarayi. I mean, it’s Turkish, but honestly it was kinda just bagels and the such. I don’t know what that means, but it confused us. Are bagels originally from Turkey?

The bagels were delish though, and helped us carbo load for what we knew was going to be a HUGE day ahead. Today, we were taking on The Met. We’re talking about arguably the best museum in the world, over two million square feet, and more than two million pieces of art. It has it’s own freaking Egyptian temple people!

But to get there, we were also going to do the Uptown Tour of the Hop On Hop Off bus, and finally (finally!) see Central Park!

Uptown is a totally different world…it’s cleaner, greener, and definitly more gentrified. Apart from Harlem. That’s exactly what you think it’s like.

Central Park is amazing, and it was so nice to see some greenery again. NYC is a total concrete jungle.

The Met? Well, The Met is inexplicably indescribably amazing. (Proper post to come, as one paragraph can’t do it any justice).

We also had our first experience with a real-life US cafeteria. We felt just like the high school movies/tv shows, but way way fancier. You grab a tray as you walk in, and then pick your meals up from various food/cuisine stations (pasta for us) and then check out at the end. It’s kinda a cross between a foodcourt and buffet, but different.

So yeah, did I mention how The Met kicked our ass? We swallowed up nearly five hours in there. But then we crazily decided to do Top Of The Rock straight afterwards, at sunset, because you know…walking two million square feet needs an 80 floor partner in crime (post here).

Just around the corner from 3o Rock is Magnolia Bakery, from SITC fame. It was adorable and smelt amazing and all the staff looked stoned. We got THREE treats, and they were all delicious…banoffe pie, choc cheesecake (both done with Oreo-like bases) and a brownie cheesecake slice. Mmmmm…

Also around the corner was an Aerosol store, which does (kind of) fashionable comfort shoes, with memory foam soles. They’re actually pretty amazing and we both got a pair of sandles.

No surprises guys, but we were really tired and exhausted by this point. We finally made it to a Chipotle for dinner (yum!) and then crashed back at the hotel room around 11pm and watched some OITNB and thought about doing some blogging.

Peace!

Tashy. x
