Day Six : Assimilation

13th July 2016

Day six of our trip and day two of being in New York! We had a pretty good sleep as the bed we’ve got it super plushy and the temperature was lovely and warm. However our sleeping patterns are a bit messed up but we just perservered anyway!

First things first : it is HOT up here in the city! Really sticky humid hot which would be awesome if you’re poolside but is crazy exhausting when you’re battling Times Square and all the stank, filth and sweat of what that entails. So we were still tired but wanted to just get amongst it so we walked up the iconic TKTS steps and took it all in – it’s just madness and even more mad since we actually hate crowds πŸ˜›

We wandered around and checked out the shops and then got hungry so we decided to go grab a bite from Dos Caminos before we went and picked up our NY Pass tickets.  However it was so wickedly hot that the changes between all the air conditioned shops and the actual weather was wrecking havoc on us and we have been reduced to carrying around eye spray to help our dry eyes. #firstworldproblems

Side note: We had to skip our plans for getting our NY Pass as the attendant said that if we wanted to redeem our Hop On Hop Off Bus portion we had to come back again anyway so we decided to do it all at once the next morning instead. Sigh.

Moving on – we had tickets for Late Night with Seth Meyers and decided to get there relatively early to make sure we knew where we were going – which is lucky as 30 Rockefeller is pretty large and we had to ask three seperate people along the way (in the building) as to where we needed to go.

We got there in the end and there was a line but nothing major – about 50 or 60 ahead of us perhaps? There was a whole process to go through and eventually we found ourselves in the Peacock Lounge where we got to sit around on couches so it was all pretty painless. We amused ourselves by trying to catch up on blogging. NERDS.

Finally we got to go into the studio (albeit with a whole other process of lines and such) and it was chilly but pretty weird to be in a place you’ve seen on tv! Once we were in the studio it was all smooth sailing and we had great seats, second row from the front on Seth Meyers side sitting behind the directors booth. Seth Meyers came out and was a consummate pro, quick witted and charming and greeted the audience before we started the show.

On the show was Bill O’Reilly, Diane Kruger (legs!!) and Riki Lindhome (from Another Period – if you haven’t watched it you should – it’s pretty funny).  It was all over fairly fast and then we were out of the air conditioning and into the stewy hot hot night. Actually we love the dusk / evening the best in New York as it’s more balmy than anything and feels a bit tropical.

We found a little pasta place and decided to just take a punt on it. It was called Pasta Lovers – it was pretty awesome and we got a shit tonne of pizza, deep fried buffalo mozzarella balls and I got a vodka while Tashy got a wine. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it but they pour stiff drinks you guys. I had about three sips and was hammered. Like, so tipsy. It was ridiculous.

After we left, stuffed to the brim with cheese and bread, we went into H&M and Tashy shopped while I queasily gripped onto rails or walls or anything that would help me stay upright. It’s a slippery slope from drunk high to drunk sick with me and I was starting to really slide into sick so we tried to get home swiftly so I could lie down.

So that was our first full day in NYC – pretty much still got lost a bit and felt overwhelmed but feeling like we could feel the city taking hold and totally loving the fact we could go out and grab food at 10pm at night. Madness!
