Guys, today we flew to NYC!! It’s fucking surreal actually being here.
It was a horrendously long day of travelling, up at 6am to check out and shuttle, then off to Terminal 7 at LAX. It was so dismal…it could have been someone’s warehouse garage with some counters set up.
Our boarding gate had no seats at all, so everyone was either standing or sitting by the walls. And our flight was late arriving, so we didn’t depart until 11am (55mins late). We arrived in New York about 8pm (local time), starving and had a stuuuuuupid shuttle driver who just lay down in his van for about 20mins, then randomly wandered off and away, came back and put our bags in the van, said we couldn’t sit in the van, and then wandered off again.
By the time we got to the hotel it was about 9.15pm. Turns out our hotel is hipster central with too cool for school doormen and beautiful hosts walking around. Tyrese was an adorable muscular little black man decked out in bow tie and braces, and he took us to the room and showed us all around. We were really surprised by the level of service and how nice the hotel was, considering we got such a good deal for it, and it’s aimed at long-stay visitors. I don’t think we realised how good a deal we actually got.
Our room is white/black/turquoise and the bed is plush as fuck. We’ll do a proper hotel post, if you wanna read about it.
With grumbling bellies (we’d had brekkie at 6am and then just almonds and walnuts on the plane) we took off to Times Square to check out the NYC madness. It was utterly crazy, lit so bright it looked like the middle of the day.
We had to quickly find some food, because we’d passed hangry and made it to another level of hunger I didn’t know about – crungry. So hungry I wanted to cry. So we lurched into a bustling Italian place and fell face first into a huge plate of spaghetti and crispy eggplant. It was the BEST thing ever. Until we totally got carbo-drunk and couldn’t do anything more than state across the table woozily at each other.
We pretty much called it a night by then, and made it back to the hotel around midnight. NYC, you are intense.
