Day two of our first LA leg of the trip we decided to do our Hop On Hop Off bus tour as it was a nice day and we’d recovered (somewhat) from the first night. Due to the roads being closed for the Ghostbusters premiere later that day, the usual starting point had moved further down to Hollywood and Vine outside the Pantages theatres.
We took this opportunity to wander down Hollywood Boulevard but very quickly realised the sun was scorching and decided to speed up the process but *spoiler alert* rushing makes you sweatier.
Upon arrival at the kiosk we got help from the lovely lady at the counter who told us we just needed to show the driver our phone with the ticket on it. Happily we got on the bus and started taking photos, only for the bus to go just down the road – stop virtually across the road from our hotel and got told that was the last stop so we needed to transfer to the other bus which was just beginning it’s route.
Laughing about it (since it was early and spirits were high) we went to get on the next bus to be confronted with the ‘supervisor’ of the Starline who told us we actually had to go to the theatre down the road to the main Starline location and get our tickets printed out. Laughter had stopped and despite arguing with him he told us “I’m the supervisor. You listen to ME”.
Long story short we got our tickets, got back on the next bus (after having a stare down and passive aggressive sass fight with the supervisor) and got on our way. *
The actual experience itself was quite fun and we had great seats – the weather was incredibly beautiful and the sights were interesting. Such a crazy mix of luxury, poverty, history and industry and weirdly we found that some parts of Beverly Hills reminded us of Melbourne. We got off to shop at the Beverly Center and then caught the later bus back home, tired and sunburnt but full of excitement of all we’d managed to see and cram into one day. Tomorrow it’s Universal Studios and trying to figure out the Metro (eeeek!).
First thing is to finally get to bed, it’s 2.35am here and we have to get up at 6. Party!
